Articles

Let’s delve into how store owners can create articles and assign them to categories.

Articles are directly associated with a specific language. If you want to create an article for all supported languages in the store, the same article must be created separately for each language and linked as translations, similar to how categories are linked.

First, navigate to the Articles Administration page, accessible via the admin sidebar under Article Management → Articles.

To view the list of articles for a specific language, you need to select the desired language from the Languages section in the left sidebar. This selected language will also be used when creating new articles.

The list of articles can be further refined by selecting a specific category from the Columns menu in the left sidebar.

Articles

  1. Languages – Indicates the language in which the articles are listed. The selected language will also be used when creating new articles.
  2. Categories – The category to which the listed articles belong.
  3. Title – The title of the article.
  4. Category – The list of categories (article categories) to which the article is assigned.
  5. Active – Indicates whether the article is visible to store customers. Inactive articles are not displayed to customers in the store.
  6. Visibility start – The date from which the active article becomes visible to customers.
  7. By clicking the Preview button, administrators can view the article in a new tab to see how it will appear to customers before activation.
  8. By clicking the Edit button, store owners can modify existing articles.
  9. If an article is no longer needed, store owners can delete it by clicking the Trash icon.
  10. To search for an article by title, simply type its name in the search bar and click the Magnifying Glass icon.
  11. By clicking the Add New button, administrators can create a new article for the selected language.

Articles

General tab

When creating a new article, all necessary information must be filled out on the General tab. Let's explore the different options one by one:

  • Category: The categories to which the article is assigned. Administrators can assign an article to as many categories as needed.
  • Language: Articles can be created for each language active in the store. The language is automatically set to the one selected on the listing page before clicking the "Add New" button.
  • Active: Determines whether the article is visible to customers. Inactive articles are not displayed to customers in the store.
  • Visibility start: The date when the active article becomes visible to customers. This field allows articles to be created in advance and scheduled for future publication. Articles must be marked as active for automatic publication.
  • Visibility end: The date after which the article will no longer be visible to customers.
  • Title: The title of the article.
  • Sources: The references on which the article content is based. Information in this field comes from the Sources settings screen, discussed earlier, and new sources can be added if needed. These sources appear under the article details, and those with defined URLs will appear as clickable links. New sources added to the article will also be visible on the Sources administration screen.
  • Source (link): This field is activated if only one source is selected in the Sources field. The URL entered here will be used for that source.
  • Tags: Articles are among the content types that can have tags assigned. Tags already added via Settings → Tags administration can be assigned to the article, but store owners can also create new tags. New tags added to the article will also appear on the Tags administration screen.
  • Photo by: If the article includes attached photos, the photographer can be credited here.
  • Author name: The name of the article's author.
  • Author picture: A photo of the article's author.
  • Option: Important: Adds a distinguishing badge to the article, indicating to customers that it deserves special attention when displayed on a page.
  • Option: Show on homepage: If enabled, the article will appear on the store's homepage.
  • Option: Disable comments: Articles are one of the Sellvio content types that allow customers to leave comments. Disabling comments prevents the comments section from appearing on the article's detail page.
  • Lead text: A brief introductory text providing a concise overview of the article. This text appears under every article when displayed on a page.
  • Description: The main content of the article. This field allows administrators to create and edit content with a visual representation similar to the final output. It supports text formatting, image insertion, and designing the main description to reflect how it will appear to customers.

Once all required fields (marked with an asterisk) are completed, the article can be saved by clicking Submit or Submit and Stay.

By clicking Submit and Preview, the article is saved and opened in a new tab, allowing administrators to view how it will appear to customers.

Translations tab

Although articles can be created separately for each language, administrators can use the Translations tab to link articles and specify which article is the translation of another.

This ensures that when customers read an article and switch the store's language, instead of being redirected to the homepage, they are taken to the linked article in the newly selected language.

Articles

If you want to order a translation for the edited article, click on one of the automatically populated language fields and start typing. Once the results appear, click on the article you wish to assign.

To unassign articles from each other (remove a translation for a specific language), simply click the small "X" button at the end of the autocomplete field.

In all cases, don’t forget to click the Submit or Submit & Stay button after modifying the article.

Files Tab

NOTE: Articles must be saved at least once before adding images or documents.

The Files tab contains two multi-upload fields: one called Gallery for uploading multiple images, and another called Documents for uploading multiple documents associated with an article.

Gallery - Multi-file upload field

This field allows administrators to upload multiple images to an article.

The image selected as the main image will serve as the article's cover photo in the Article Lists.

On the article details page, the uploaded images will appear in a scrollable carousel.

Documents - Multi-file upload field

Administrators can also upload documents related to the article using the Documents multi-file upload field. Each uploaded document will appear as a downloadable file on the article details page, beneath the main description of the article.

Related content tab

In Sellvio, web store owners can associate related content with specific content types, such as articles.

All associated related content types appear below the article content in their respective sections.

Let’s explore the different types of content that can be added as related content:

Articles

  • Related articles - Articles can be added as related content to one another. There is no limit to the number of related articles that can be assigned.
  • Related product categories - Administrators can add related products from specific product categories by searching for the category name and clicking on the desired category. There is no limit to the number of product categories that can be added.
  • Related products - Products can be added similarly to product categories by searching for a specific product by name and adding it with a single click from the search results. There is no limit to the number of products that can be assigned.
  • Related events - Events can also be added as related content. There is no limit to the number of related events that can be assigned.
  • Related galleries - Articles may have their own images, but administrators can also link galleries as related content. There is no limit to the number of galleries that can be associated with articles.
  • Related polls - Polls are the only type of content that can only be integrated as related content, as they do not have their own standalone detail pages. However, similar to other related content, there is no limit to the number of polls that can be linked to a gallery.

SEO tab

Sellvio provides settings for in-depth SEO optimization for each content type and category. Find out more about the SEO settings (click here).

Sharing tab

Under the dedicated sharing tab, store owners can configure Open Graph (OG) settings for the article in its respective language.

  • OG Title – The title of the article that appears when it is shared. It helps control how the page title is displayed on social platforms, making it more user-friendly and appealing to an online audience.
  • OG Description – The description of the article that appears when the page is shared.
  • OG Image – The image that appears alongside the OG title and OG description when the content is shared on social media platforms.
